Simien Mountains

The Simien Mountains are one of Africa largest ranges with Ras Dashen at 4553 metres being the highest point in Ethiopia and the 4th highest peak in Africa.  It was declared a National Park in 1969 and was one of the first sites to be included on UNESCO’s world heritage list in 1978.

The Simien Wolf (the world’s rarest Canid) can be found in this park and the indigenous Gelada Baboon is a common sight. The rare Walia Ibex (goat family with spiral horns) can be found here.
